FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ 1: How many days and nights should I plan to be in Mississippi? The Agrarian Legacy Funder Education Tour is a 4-day, 3-night immersive experience that gets underway the evening of Tuesday, June 2, 2026 and ends with a closing reflection session on Friday morning, June 5, 2026. We are asking participants to fly into Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport by 2pm CST on Tuesday, June 2nd, and out of Memphis, TN after 10am CST on Friday.

FAQ 2:  Is there a registration fee and deadline for participation? Yes, all attendees must be registered with their air travel arrangements by Thursday, May 7, 2026. The cost is $3,500 for single lodging accommodations, and $6,000 for 2 adults sharing lodging accommodations. See the registration tab for more details on what the registration fee covers.

FAQ 3: Will SAAFON book my travel or am I responsible for this? Airfare is not including in the registration fee. Once your travel arrangements are booked,  please contact Alisha Johnson Perry @ 504-564-5845 or ajperry@saafon.org, with your final arrangements. Also contact her if you experience any difficulty booking travel to Gulfport-Biloxi.

FAQ 4: What should I bring? The Tour takes place predominantly on a charter bus traveling throughout the state, and on the farms and community-based operations of SAAFON members and partners. Hence, please plan for both indoors and outdoors activities. Bring the appropriate clothing to feel comfortable throughout the event. June in Mississippi is typically hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 85*-95.* This time of the year is also prone to showers, so carry light rainwear and wear appropriate closed-toe shoes for navigating uneven and possibly muddy terrain. Other things to bring include:
  • A pen and notebook to jot ideas, share contact information, or remember quotes or sketches that feel inspiring during the event.
  • Hydration is key! own water bottle and/or coffee cup to reduce plastic waste if you are able.
  • Any comfort foods or snacks that will help you enjoy the experience beyond the 8 planned meals SAAFON will be covering.
  • Ear buds and any other technology that will support bus travel times ranging from 60 - 135 minutes.

FAQ 5: What is the Tour schedule, and can I attend for only a portion of the event? See the Tour itinerary page which explains the farm tour and travel experience from June 2nd- 5th. Due to the private and intimate nature of the Tour, we discourage participants from participating in a portion of the event. SAAFON requests that all guests arrive by Tuesday, June 2nd at 2pm. This will facilitate check-ins, introductions and orientation before beginning travel to our farmers’ homes and farm operations. A detailed schedule will be provided to all registrants before the Tour begins.

FAQ 6: Will there be on-site childcare? No – but if you need support, please indicate your needs on the registration form.

FAQ 7: Will ground transportation be provided? Yes, transportation to and from the airport, and between lodging and farm sites, are included in your registration. Specifically throughout the trip. We are working with a transportation service throughout the duration of the Tour. SAAFON will provide the following Tour-related ground transportation: from the Gulfport airport to the Almanett on June 2; from Foxfire Ranch in Waterford to Memphis Airport on June 5; and charter transportation service between the lodging sites and farm tours, starting at Gulfport, MS, and ending at Waterford, MS.
FAQ 8: May I receive a tax-deduction for participating in this Tour?  Designed as a break even event, SAAFON has set the fair market value (FMV) of this tour at $3,500 per individual. Individuals and organizations are invited to donate to SAAFON above the FMV of $3,500 per person, by visiting our website at www.saafon.org/donate or specifying the amount of the gift in writing and sending a check payable to SAAFON, a fiscally sponsored program of Inquiring Systems, Inc., at 1275 4th Street, #371, Santa Rosa, CA 95404. Donors contributing above the $3,500 per individual are encouraged to consult their tax advisor regarding charitable contributions.

  • May 12 (cancellation 14 business days before the event) - 75% refund*
